Trinity Health Paramedic Cardiac Testing in WEST DES MOINES, Iowa

Description:

This position is the Emergency Response for the Cardiac Testing Department.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains proficiency with all cardiovascular testing equipment and procedures performed at MercyOne Iowa Heart Center

  • Screens patient’s medical record for diagnosis and order for procedure. Greets, educates and prepares patients for procedure (testing) according to protocol.

  • Establishes IV sites and administers intravenous medications as a part of various diagnostic tests.

  • Screens patient's medical record for appropriate diagnosis and orders for procedures. Instructs and educates patients regarding the ordered test and prepares the patient for the procedure

  • Performs testing according to established protocols.

  • Instructs and educates patients regarding ordered tests and follow-up.

  • Monitors patient's status during testing

  • Positions patients as necessary to complete testing exams

  • Transports, ambulates, and transfers patients as needed

  • Accurately and completely documents in EHR and billing system in a timely manner

  • Responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information

  • Maintains equipment in designated testing areas

  • Maintains a clean, well-organized work environment, and stocks the exam room appropriately

  • Demonstrates customer service/interpersonal skills

  • Takes personal responsibility for work, actions, and attitudes

  • Respects patients, peers, clients, students, physicians, service representatives, and other hospital staff

  • Demonstrates positive and effective communication skills

  • Cooperates with peers and leaders to build and maintain an effective healthcare team

  • Acts as a resource and helps to orient and develop new staff

  • Participates in QA activities as directed by technical and medical director

  • Adheres to all Joint Commission, Iowa Department of Public Health, Intersocietal Accreditation Commission, and MercyOne Iowa Heart Center’s Radiation Safety Program guidelines

  • Completes department competencies in the required timeframes

  • Attends required meetings and participates on committees as requested

  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations

  • Operates required vehicle(s) in a safe manner to perform required duties of the position

  • Travels to other MercyOne Iowa Heart Center offices or MercyOne campuses as needed

  • Performs other work related duties as required

  • May function up to Scope of Practice

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Prior experience and/or training of cardiac monitoring and patient assessment preferred.

Required Licensure and Certifications

Current Paramedic (PM) License or Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) License for the State of Iowa.

Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three (3) months of hire.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained by the end of the orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks).

ACLS within 30 days of hire and PALS within 60 days of hire.

Valid Iowa Driver’s/Chauffeur's License required, must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.

Completion of EKG course within one (1) month of hire.

Completion of Cardiac Arrhythmia course within three (3) months of hire.

Completion of stress testing competency program within three (3) months of hire.

Advanced 12 Lead EKG course within one (1) year of hire.
