UnityPoint Health Clinical Assistant II-Occupational Health-Penn Medical in West Des Moines, Iowa

Performs a variety of clinical duties; responsible for assisting the physician with direct patient care. Perform other tasks as required, both administrative and clinical. Responsible for providing direct care to employees and other personnel who become ill and/or are injured on company property.

  • Answers questions and provides teaching to patients and family members.

  • Documents appropriate information in the patient’s chart.

  • Complete patient forms and file medical records/correspondence, including progress notes, diagnostic information, professional correspondence and x-rays.

  • Measure and record patient’s statistical data and medical history at the request of the provider.

  • Record and obtain physician approval for medication refill requests, return calls to pharmacies with refill information.

  • Schedule referrals for patients as requested by the provider; complete appropriate forms or requisitions required for referrals or lab testing.

  • Assist provider with patient examination, procedures and emergencies.

  • Is knowledgeable and trained to conduct EKG, breath alcohol, pulmonary function, audiogram and drug testing services and additional lab tests as required.

  • Prepare and assist provider with patient examination, specimen collection, minor surgical procedures and treatment of the patients, including administration of medication under direct supervision of the provider.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing, medical assistant program, medical laboratory tech or radiological technology program.

Experience:

Experience in clinical nursing preferred over hospital nursing experience.

Previous clinical experience preferred/desirable.

License(s)/Certification(s):

A state of Iowa nursing license, nationally accepted medical assistant certification by AAMA within one year of hire, medical laboratory tech registry, OR AART registry. State of Iowa Permit to practice limited radiography may be acquired within the first year of employment. Licenses & Certifications must be maintained.
