Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assists in the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, including preparation and distribution of medications to patients and patient care areas. What you will Do:

Assists Pharmacist in prescription order preparation/delivery.

Assists in maintaining medication and supply inventory.

Performs computer data entry and print functions.

Initiates and completes sales transactions. (retail only)

Performs private and third party billing functions.

Prepares sterile intravenous medication admixture solutions. (inpatient only)

Maintains floor stock medication levels in patient care areas. (inpatient only)

Monitors activity of specially identified medications and processes as directed.

Assists with training.

Assesses and makes decisions regarding income eligibility for medication assistance.

Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.

Based on principles of growth and development, provides care appropriate to the age related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit which may include:

Birth – 28 days Neonate

1 – 18 Months Infant

18 Months – 3 Years Toddler

3 – 6 Years Preschool-aged

6 – 12 Years School-aged

12 – 18 Years Adolescents

18 – 65 Years Adults

65+ Years Geriatric

Hours/Schedule:

Full time, 40 hours per week

No nights, holidays, weekends

8:30 am - 6 pm

Minimum Qualifications:

Current Pharmacy Technician Certification required. If driving, valid Iowa driver’s license. Registered with Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Technician or as a Pharmacy Intern within 30 days of hire.

Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians while performing their job duties. Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology preferred. Ability to take direction and work as part of a team. Strong customer relations’ skills. Intermediate language, high math, intermediate reasoning ability. Personal computer, word processing knowledge.

Physical and Mental Requirements: Must be able to operate all equipment that is essential to performing the job; Must have good coordination and manual dexterity and functional use of senses; Evidence of the necessary physical, mental and emotional health to effectively perform the job; Ability to handle stress related to emergency situations; Must possess the ability to perform work accurately and with attention to detail; Ability to wear protective clothing when exposed to hazardous/infectious materials

Work Environment: Fast paced clinical environment; Must be able to prioritize work for completion with interruptions; Must be able to handle problems requiring a rapid response.

Hazards: May prepare chemotherapy admixtures and work with toxic chemicals
