SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing accurate, safe, efficient and cost-effective drug distribution, and pharmaceutical care services, either directly or indirectly, to the patients of the pharmacy through the efforts of supportive staff.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)

  • Provide accurate, efficient and appropriate pharmaceutical distribution services to patients by properly interpreting physicians’ drug orders and dispensing the appropriate medications.

  • Review patient medical and pharmaceutical records and monitors for efficient drug therapy, drug interaction, adverse drug reactions, contraindication, allergies, and sensitivities.

  • Develop and demonstrate commitment to the self-directed development of clinical pharmacy practice skills under guidelines of the departmental staff development programs through identification of personal education goals and objectives.

  • Administer immunizations.

  • Communicate directly with both physicians and nurses regarding questions concerning patient drug therapy.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate from an accredited school of pharmacy with active pharmacist license in the state of Iowa.

  • Obtain and maintain current certification required by the department to ensure abilities to deliver specialized services, such as Basic Cardiac Life Support, Immunization certification.

  • Maintain current knowledge of State and Federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances and investigational agents; conducts personal practice in accordance with those requirements.

  • BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of hire
