Description
SUMMARY
The dietitian develops, communicates and implements programs that facilitate the provision of high quality and appropriate nutritional care to patients. Areas of responsibility include: assessment of nutritional needs, provision of medical nutrition therapy and nutritional education in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. May participate in community service by providing nutrition education to various groups or individuals in the community.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)
Assess patients nutritional status and screens for potential nutrition risk.
Instruct patients/family in nutrition principles and prescribes diets, menus and food selection and preparation.
Assist patients with establishing and maintaining behavioral change goals related to diet.
Monitor the overall nutritional care of patients; makes appropriate recommendations for nutritional intervention while providing medical nutrition therapy.
Establish goals for nutrition care of patients, conducts assessments, and develops individualized nutrition care plans with ongoing evaluation of nutrition status through the continuum of care.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition or related field.
Two years of clinical practice experience preferred, including experience in outpatient services.
Certification as a Registered Dietitian by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)
Possess current state license of certification as a Registered Dietitian
Must maintain continuing education requirements set by state licensure regulations and the commission on Dietetic Registration.
