Responsible for the day to day operations of the specialty pharmacy. Responsible for maintaining and ensuring compliance with all accreditation programs, pharmacy licenses, and state and federal regulations. Serves as a mentor and leader for UPaH specialty pharmacy, as well as, all of UPaH and UPH. Creates a vision and strategic direction for the service line, which support the mission, vision, values and strategic plan. Director assumes responsibility for the creation, development and implementation of new programs; seeking avenues of growth and new opportunities; guides the development of a patient centered service, which sets the standards in quality, service and cost. Provides timely communication with the VP and staff, as needed. Performs all duties required and assigned in a timely manner. Maintains professionalism at all times and exemplifies the FOCUS values.

Daily work assignments
Provide leadership within the pharmacy in order to ensure effective, efficient operations, optimizing performance and continually improving quality of care in a vastly changing health care environment.
Responsible for creating a culture of innovation, learning, teamwork and professional practice, consistent with the mission, vision and values of the company.
Establish effective mechanisms of communication with staff, providers, patients and the management team to foster an environment of openness, trust, teamwork and staff development.
Communicate with management regularly to review service issues and opportunities for improvement to ensure the delivery of high quality service to all internal and external customers.
Responsible for the interview and hiring process including completion of employment forms in an accurate and timely manner and coordination of orientation and training programs for new staff members.
Keep all Pharmacy Employee Licensures up to date and current and all pharmacy state licenses, etc.
Ensures that staff consistently utilizes a holistic approach considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of patients served in assigned service area.
Conducts performance evaluations, coaching, counseling and disciplinary action.
Responsible for overseeing the day to day management of the pharmacy including the establishment of work schedules, review of staffing needs and the supervision and training of staff in good patient relations and office policies and procedures.
Demonstrate sound fiscal management of pharmacy operations through comprehensive budgetary planning, variance analysis/justification and regular monitoring of financial performance/productivity.
Continuously review pharmacy operations and assignment of responsibilities to ensure patients and organizational service needs are met.
Provides guidance and oversight of all clinical operations and makes sounds clinical decisions.
Consults with field staff periodically.
Coordinate the dispensing of medications in compliance with all state, federal and pharmacy regulations.
Complies with all FDA mandates and self-imposed manufacturer restrictions on particular medications, such as REMS programs.
Supervises the patient management program.
Provide troubleshooting assistance to staff for dispensing, documentation, inventory control or delivery issues.
Maintain current information on pharmaceuticals and distribute to staff.
Schedule, conduct and complete follow-up for monthly staff meetings.
Prepare and submit weekly payroll reports timely and accurately.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
Develop and enhance partnerships with various business units to provide positive environment to enhance clinical innovation across the care continuum.
Find more effective ways to allocate resources to control costs and provide sufficient access to quality care.
Monitor adjustments and write-offs related to revenue qualification errors and address deficiencies within the teams.
Review financial and A/R indicators on an ongoing basis.
Uses data to direct work to ensure efficient operations.
Develops new processes as needed in response to system or regulatory changes.
Provide experience, insight, and strategy as appropriate to provide input into corporate direction and long range planning.
Prepare annual report on service line activity.
Works collaboratively with other UPH Pharmacy leaders to support system initiatives around the care model, quality and safety as well as to identify system sustainability opportunities
Provides leadership and responsibility for accreditation and regulatory survey readiness.
Serves as an influential champion for UPHs safety program, supporting a fair and just culture of safety, accountability and organizational learning.
Provides direction, supervision and support to team members. Delegates accountability and responsibility appropriately to leadership team.

Employee is responsible for completion of communication tasks and activities in a timely manner. This would include, but is not limited to: responding to email, voicemail or telephone messages, promptly, accurately, and professionally; attending staff meetings as scheduled or viewing videotapes of those meetings; asking questions of team members and supervisors when needing clarification about various day-to-day issues or patient needs; and reviewing employee communication pieces, to stay aware of UnityPoint at Home programs and initiatives.
Responsible for ensuring pharmacy and staff licensure requirements in all states the specialty pharmacy provides services in and staff maintain ongoing training and licensure for those states
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Science or Pharm.D degree.
Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
Experience:
Two years previous pharmaceutical experience with Specialty Pharmacy therapy.
Sufficient knowledge, training, and expertise in pharmacotherapeutics relative to infusion medications as well as specialty medications.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment, decision making and problem solving expertise.
Previous computerized practice management/billing system experience.
Knowledge of collection rules and regulations.
Knowledge of diagnostic and procedural coding requirements in conjunction with submission of insurance claims to third party payers.
Knowledge of personnel administration and patient relation principles.
Ability to work as a collaborative team member.
Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Current unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in the State of Iowa.
Valid licensed driver with automobile insurance in accordance with state and/or organizational requirements.
Mandatory Reporter: Child & Dependent Adult Abuse.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledgeable in Specialty Pharmacy and management
