Trinity Health Patient Food Server (Part Time - Evenings) in Sioux City, Iowa

Description:Shift is 4:30 pm to 8 p.m. 5 days a week and alternating weekends

Under limited supervision, is responsible for utilizing the principles of foodservice safety and sanitation to prepare patient trays for all diets, delivery and pickup of trays, special requests and needs, in-between meal food delivery and dish/pot washing. Communicates with nutrition supervisor, clinical nutrition coordinator, supervisor and others on the healthcare team. Provides proper etiquette and excellent customer service for all age groups from infants to elderly and all customers.

What you will do:

  • Delivers trays in appropriate time frame in order to maintain correct food temperature.

  • Assists patients during meal service as needed, responds timely to pick-up carts and late trays and always follows infection control precautions.

  • Fills orders to deliver late trays as requested from diet office staff.

  • Communicates any patient-related problems/diet menu selections such as: poor appetite or refusing to eat, to appropriate personnel (Registered Dietitian, Patient Service Manager) in a timely manner following departmental procedures.

  • Complies with dietary restrictions on special, modified diets to ensure optimal food preferences are meant within guidelines of diet order limitations.

  • Documents all patients % of meal consumed after each meal. Documents meal completion for calorie count orders. Notifies Registered Dietitian of special food item requests.

  • Informs dietitian with monitoring of patients who are NPO, decrease appetite/menu selections, on liquid diets, have a calorie count ordered or special requests.

  • Interacts with Nursing to ensure patients' diet prescriptions are accurate, and patients' food needs are met.

  • Exhibits a "wow experience" with patients when introducing yourself, taking menu selections, delivering trays, and inquiring about further needs and receiving trays.

  • Exhibits pleasant and cheerful demeanor and maintains a helpful attitude towards colleagues, physicians, patients and hospital guests.

  • Always maintains a professional image (hair groomed, clothes cleaned, etc.). Follows Nutrition Services Dress Code Policy.

  • Contributes to patient satisfaction goals by providing quality service, delivering trays in a timely fashion, and collecting trays after patient has completed their meal.

What we are looking for:

  • Completion of high school or GED is preferred but not required.

  • Prior experience working in the field of institutional food service/health care food service or hospitality industry preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with individuals.

  • Ability to work as a team member and to work independently.

  • Must demonstrate excellent customer services skills.

  • Must always possess high integrity and maintain confidentiality.

  • Must be able to cope effectively with stressful situations and time constraints.

  • Ability to read, follow and understand written and verbal instructions required.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required.
