The history of Holy Spirit Retirement Home dates to September 1968 when ground was broken on the first part of the nursing home facility located at West 25th Street in Sioux City. Holy Spirit Retirement Home is Siouxland’s only faith-based, locally owned entity. We offer a range of services, including skilled nursing care, independent living, assisted living, and long-term care. Competitive pay: Holy Spirit Retirement Home has a minimum starting wage of $15.00 for all departments. The pay is increased based on position, and experience.

Referral bonuses:

Of course, we offer an employee referral bonus for both full-time, part-time, and PRN employees.

Full-time employees can receive a referral bonus of $350.00 at 3 and 6 months.

Part-time employees can receive a referral bonus of $250.00 at 3 and 6 months.

PRN employees can receive a referral bonus of $125.00 at 3 and 6 months.

These are applicable across all departments.

What we require:

Employees hired by Holy Spirit Retirement Home are subject to COVID-19 vaccination requirements. Newly hired staff must be fully vaccinated or willing to obtain the first dose of a two-dose series, prior to begin employment. Newly hired staff who are not yet fully vaccinated must follow the guidelines for additional precautions, until they are fully vaccinated.

All Holy Spirit Retirement Home nursing staff are required to provide proof of an active license.

We also require all our employees to have a Mandatory Reporter Certificate for adult abuse. This is free to obtain at the website.

All Holy Spirit Retirement Home employees are required to pass a physical, drug test, TB test, and thorough background check before employment may begin.

Job Title: Licensed Practicing Nurse

Pay: $27.00 - $29.15

Hours: Multiple shifts require filling.


Provide assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident's assessment and care plan. Plans and manages patient care according to each patient’s needs. Interviews patients and records their medical history and physical condition. Obtains patient vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and respiration.

Must possess, at minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved LPN program and a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Iowa.

Must possess and maintain current CPR Certification.

Basic to intermediate proficiency with Microsoft product suite (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) required; basic knowledge and experience with electronic mail and calendaring system in PC LAN environment expected.

Maintain a high degree of personal accountability, responsibility, and independent decision-making with the skills to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the organization.

Work is performed primarily inside with frequent kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting. Must be able to push, pull, move and or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 3 ½ feet and be able to push, pull, move and or carry such weight a minimum distance of 10 feet.

May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents in emergency situations.

Subject to exposure to noise, infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including TB, HIV, HEP B viruses. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Essential Functions:

· Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing personnel assigned in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that governing the long-term care communities. Review care plans daily to ensure that appropriate care is being rendered.

· Evaluate, develop, mentor, coach, counsel, and discipline department staff. Supports community personnel from other departments through coaching and mentoring to help achieve optimum standard of excellence. Addresses issues of concern through courageous conversation and notifies department manager of any interactions requiring attention.

· Make daily rounds of assigned unit/shift to ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Ensure personnel are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.

· Oversee all nursing activities in assigned area and administer professional services such as; catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, taking blood, giving massages and range of motion exercise

· Care for the dead/dying, etc., as required.

· Review medication administration, treatment administration records for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of the physician's order, and adherence to stop order policies. Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician while observing the 5 rights of medication administration.

· Review complaints and grievances made by residents and make a written/verbal report to the Director of Nursing and/or Administrator indicating what action(s) were taken to resolve the complaint or grievance. Follow Holy Spirit's established procedures.

· Perform charting duties as required and in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident's response to the care. All charting must be in accordance with established charting and documentation policies and procedures. Complete and file required forms/charts upon the resident's admission, transfer, and/or discharge.

· Requisition and arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services, as ordered by the physician, and in accordance with our established procedures.

· Ensure that an adequate stock level of medications, medical supplies, equipment, etc., is always maintained on your unit/shift to meet the needs of the residents.

· Ensuring patients and families understand release instructions

· Observing patient reactions to medications

· Observing patient mental health status

· Providing emotional support

· Assisting with daily needs such as bathing and dressing

· Observing of patients for skin breakdown

Perform other related duties as assigned – special projects related to the operation of Holy Spirit Retirement Home, balancing of department’s workload, or assisting in the absence of other employees. Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures, and as instructed by supervisors.
