Description:
Under direct supervision, performs computerized patient scheduling, medical record filing and management, medical record chart prep, data entry, answers telephone calls from patients. Completes the patient office visit, which includes registering patients, receiving payment on patient accounts, and scheduling follow up appointments. What you will do:
Files and retrieves patient medical records. Maintains adequate filing and retrieval systems to assure prompt availability of records.
Files all reports received into the appropriate patient chart.
Maintains the medical record system for accuracy and timeliness of service.
Maintains the patient file by ensuring transcription and/or notation is made for each office visit, hospital visit, outreach visit and etc.
Assists with copying of patient charts for insurance companies and for patients at their request for transfer of records following established policies and procedures.
Checks in patients following Standard Work Instructions (SWI).
Updates and verifies patient demographics, making appropriate changes as needed following SWI.
Checks out patients after their office visit by collecting payments and past due balances following SWI.
Answers telephone calls and responds to telephone and visitor inquires according to established procedures and policies, routing calls to appropriate personnel as necessary and maintains proficiency receiving/relaying messages from external and internal customers.
Schedules patients and maintains daily appointment schedules following standard work instructions. Consults with provider(s) or designee when need arises.
Creates patient encounters for hospital rounding, testing, and procedures performed following established SWI.
Creates spreadsheet to track encounters for billing purposes. Coordinates check and balance of spreadsheet with internal and external resources following established SWI.
Accurately enters data from spreadsheet into computer system following established SWI.
Appropriately documents pertinent information regarding patient accounts utilizing the computer system and medical record.
Demonstrates proper use of office equipment.
Uses effective communication principles to coordinate care with other health care providers.
Actively participates in clinic meetings, committees, conferences, and in-services.
Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing established lines of authority and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes. What we are looking for:
High school diploma or equivalent GED required. Previous experience of one to two years in a medical office or health care facility preferred.
Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with customers and all members of the health care team.
Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.
Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of MercyOne and Trinity Health.
