Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse/Designee, the Medication Aide will assist in the administering of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or the Director or Nursing. The administration of medications shall be in accordance with established nursing standards, the policies, procedures, and practices of this community and the requirement of the state of Iowa.

About the job:

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse/Designee, the Medication Aide will assist in the administering of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or the Director or Nursing. The administration of medications shall be in accordance with established nursing standards, the policies, procedures, and practices of this community and the requirement of the state of Iowa.

What you will do:

  • Know, understand, incorporate and demonstrate the Mission, Vison, Values, Guiding Behaviors of Trinity Health, M and Trinity Senior Living Communities in behaviors, practices and decisions.

  • Consistently demonstrate (leads by example) Values to Internal and external customers (residents, visitors, volunteers and associates.) Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, propagating a calm environment through the community.

  • Execute assignments in a culture that is shared and collaborative across the unit.

  • Accurately and safely prepare, administer and document for oral and/or topical medications that are commonly used in this community and that may be ordered for resident use by the attending physician or the Medical Director.

  • Participate in MDQI programs and any other community committee or program which affects the medication pass and seeks to improve the performance and accuracy of the medication pass.

  • Ensure that all medications administered and properly labeled. Follow the labeling policies and practices of the community.

  • Follow community policies and procedures regarding the destroying of medications; assist in carrying out these rules under the direction of the community pharmacist, Director of Nursing including the documentation requirements.

  • Observe and verify the medication has been ingested and/ or applied as directed. Document any instances where prescribed medication has not been administered, including reason(s) for refusal.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information. Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy.

  • Supports the admission, transfer and discharge process for the resident.

  • Assist residents with daily living functions such as dental care, feeding, bathing, dressing/undressing nail care, hair care and shaving according to expressed preference.

  • Assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, whirlpools, wheelchairs and lifts.

  • Answer call lights promptly.

  • Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures; provide daily range of motion exercises and record data as instructed.

  • Enters information and documents accurately in Power chart and Pyxis in accordance with company policy, practice and standards.

What we are looking for:

  • Must have successfully completed a 75-hour credit (or more) Nursing Assistant Program (Certified Nurse Assistant) from an accredited school, if no certificate, verification of employment as a CNA and state registered.

  • Successful completion of Qualified Medication Aide course.

  • Must be in an active status on the Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry.
