Position Highlights
Summary
- The Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests, procedures and related duties. Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural, and problem solving aptitudes for day-to-day laboratory technical operations, quality control, quality assurance, procedure/instrument maintenance and corrective action, test result correlation, and clinical laboratory related continuing education.

- Rotating shifts with weekend/holiday involvement
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and completion of NAACLS accredited Clinical Laboratory Scientist (MT) program, or a Bachelors degree and one to two years of experience/training acceptable to the NCA or ASCP at the Clinical Laboratory Scientist/MT level.
Certificate, Licenses, Registrations
- Certification as a MT or CLS from a nationally recognized credentialing agency for Laboratory professionals (NCA, ASCP, AMT) or obtain within 6 months of hire.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of laboratory instrumentation or disciplines including but not limited to: supply inventory, quality control, calibration, reagent preparation, etc. Initiates and follows through with corrective action.
Accurately performs basic to complex clinical laboratory tests utilizing theoretical knowledge and independent judgment in addition to established protocol, techniques and equipment manuals.
Communicate laboratory data and pertinent technical information to appropriate departments and individuals in an accurate and timely fashion. Includes verbal as well as electronic means.
Critique, correlate and differentiate results of tests utilizing theoretical knowledge and independent judgment in addition to established protocol, techniques and equipment manuals. Assess the validity of results which appear usual, or which may differ significantly from previous results or expected values.
Participate with development of protocols, lab manuals, new instrumentation, lab CQI or other laboratory developmental activities.
Provide technical guidance to and be primary resource for phlebotomy, MLT, and lab assistant staff members.
Provide instruction and/or perform specimen collection.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
