Garmin Project Manager 2 - Automotive OEM in Olathe, Kansas

We are seeking a full-time Project Manager 2 on our Automotive OEM team at our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for providing project management and coordination for moderately complex projects between project team and other departments in the development of Garmin products. \n\nEssential Functions \n\n\n\tApplies project management skills on moderately complex projects or tasks, including understanding and communicating milestones, timelines, and project decisions\n\tAct as a project liaison among various engineering and operations teams at Garmin, including software, electrical, compliance, purchasing and manufacturing groups\n\tProvisions the timely documentation of clear project scope [i.e. detailed assumptions, requirements (internal, external, regulatory), objectives/targets, validation needs, resource estimates, costs, and timing]\n\tLeads effective and efficient team meetings, ensures team members/stakeholders are appropriately informed, and communicates project tradeoffs and decisions to ensure forward moving progress of the project\n\tSupports creation and maintenance of complex timelines and milestone tracking\n\tApplies project metrics and risk management principles to identify and mitigate potential schedule impacting items\n\tDrives the overall progress of assigned projects towards completion, using good judgment in determining when to escalate issues to management\n\tMay perform as a project leader on small to mid-size projects\n\tLeverages understanding of product domain to support concept/new feature development efforts\n\tEnsures accurate project reporting and consistently provides clear and accurate project documentation \n\tDevelops good relationships between the development team(s), other Garmin teams/departments and external entities (e.g. customers, suppliers, etc) and identifies/resolves possible conflicts\n\tCreates processes and releases GPNs, BOMs and ECOs within established processes\n\tCollaborates and participates in design reviews by providing input, feedback, and process improvement suggestions\n\tProvides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques including support of root cause and corrective actions for given problems \n\tDemonstrates full use of accepted standards, procedures, tools and requirements as they relate to project management and product segment \n\tDemonstrates good customer communication skills, including but not limited to handling difficult conversations and negotiating with the customer for reasonable delivery targets \n\tCompletes PPAP and APQP documentation requirements to meet customer expectations with limited support or mentoring\n\tSupports working hours as needed to best align with project development needs – resources will be treated as on-call for customer depending on customers working hours\n\tDevelops and maintains a detailed project budget, product costs, staffing plan, and change request register\n\n\nFor Automotive OEM Project Management positions:\n\n\n\tUnderstands compliance standards (i.e. IATF 16949, ASPICE, VDA, etc.) that are applicable to AOEM development, including understanding which standards are applicable to which global developments\n\tLeads project or feature development to provide a quality product for the AOEM customer\n Basic Qualifications \n\n\n\tBachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline AND a minimum of 2 years relevant experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience\n\tExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)\n\tPrevious experience serving as a project manager for software and/or hardware projects\n\tDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills\n\tDemonstrated proficiency using and applying engineering and project management tools\n\tDemonstrated understanding of production and operations issues as they relate to engineering project management\n\tMust be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead projects in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment \n\tAbility to deal with confidential company matters\n\tProficient computer skills in MS Office Suite and MS Project\n\n\nDesired Qualifications\n\n\n\tExperience working in the automotive industry and familialr with APQP, PPAP and ASPICE\n\tExperience working with JIRA\n\tExperience managing projects related to product development\n\tExperience working with external customers\n\n\n \n\nGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
