Description:
Position Purpose:
Responsible for proactively ensuring and maintaining patient safety and security under the direction of Registered Nurse. Observes and monitors safety and comfort of non-suicidal, suicidal and patients who require frequent or continual observation and contact, due to psychiatric, medical and/or safety reasons.
What you will Do:
Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the mission, vision and core values of MercyOne North Iowa and Trinity Health in behaviors, practices and decisions.
Ensures patient’s comfort and relates any concerns and/or patient issues promptly to the Registered Nurse and any other appropriate providers involved with the patient's care; assists in implementing safety measures and de-escalation.
Maintains the prescribed level of surveillance, including constant observation in the line of sight and in proximity for rapid intervention even when visitors are in the room and when patient is in the bathroom; accompanies the patient at all times including off-unit for diagnostic studies.
Maintains order in the patient room.
Assists Registered Nurse and care team, in conducting activities that enhance the patient's wellbeing, including but not limited to, ambulating, feeding, toileting and other activities of daily living.
Interacts and engages with the patient in therapeutically prescribed activities while helping to ensure patient and family satisfaction.
Hours/Schedule:
Day Shift- Full Time- Nights
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
CPR and previous patient care experience in a mental health or health related environment preferred.
CPI (or organizational de-escalation training) certification required; must be obtained with 6 months of hire. Responsible for maintaining ongoing certification renewals
Ability to communicate effectively with patient, family, visitors and hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes by reporting and summoning assistance.
Solid customer service skills.
Ability to work in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.
Strong prioritization, multi-tasking and coordination skills within a fast-paced environment.
Personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
