The FirstChoice Registered Nurse Manager serves as a member of MercyOne Health System’s nursing leadership. Due to rapid program growth, we are excited to add a new Registered Nurse Manager to our FirstChoice Team. This role is integral to ensuring high-quality patient care, supporting our nursing staff, and driving the continued success of our expanding FirstChoice Program.
The Nurse Manager provides clinical and administrative leadership for planning, organizing, directing, monitoring, and evaluating safe, superior and preeminent quality patient care to ensure the advancement of clinical practice and patient care for a nursing unit; that is consistent with the ANA Scope of Practice and Nursing Code of Ethics, the American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Standards, and regulatory requirements.
Ensures FirstChoice staff hired delivers quality patient care: quality of care delivered, engagement of the FirstChoice colleague with the ministry team, overall performance, etc.
In alignment with the Trinity Health National FirstChoice directives and standards, participates in and supports MercyOne strategic development and outcomes management of nursing and clinical services and/or department improvements within multi areas of responsibility.
Collaborates with and supports the MercyOne FirstChoice operational executive, the Trinity Health national FirstChoice executive director, and other key leaders, groups, and stakeholder audiences in the development and implementation of operational plans, goals and objectives. Has an A2 reporting relationship to the Trinity Health national FirstChoice executive director and to the regional/ministry CNO or operational executive responsible for FirstChoice.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates MercyOne's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
Serves as a member of the nursing leadership team to participate and give feedback into the development and implementation of the nursing strategic plan, implementation of change, and inform departmental decision-making.
In alignment with the MercyOne FirstChoice program standards, supports the development and implementation short and long-term goals and objectives, standards of care, and operating plans for the FirstChoice hub.
Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team and unit staff in the development, implementation, and monitoring of unit operating and capital budgets.
Manages ongoing measurement, action planning, and evaluation methods related to all dimensions of performance inclusive of budget, productivity, associate engagement, patient satisfaction, workplace safety, healthy work environments, and clinical outcome targets for the FirstChoice hub.
Utilizes standard capture elements and monitoring to measure and regularly report on FirstChoice utilization; external agency utilization; over-time shifts and shift incentive costs, etc.
Operationalizes (implements) and monitors FirstChoice program standards related to education and required competencies, orientation, retention, cultural competence, conflict management, and coaching of associates to ensure staffing for safe, superior and preeminent quality patient care for the FirstChoice hub.
In collaboration with FirstChoice Recruiters, ensures the recruitment, retention, development, mentoring, succession planning for and engagement of quality patient care associates within the assigned area.
Develops, promotes, and implements an environment of shared leadership and decision- making.
Participates in evaluating, selecting, and integrating health care technology and information systems that support patient care and the national FirstChoice program.
In collaboration with/and as directed by, the Trinity Health national director of FirstChoice and MercyOne's operational executive (along with interdisciplinary team members, and Quality/Safety Department colleagues), facilitates, develops, directs, manages, and monitors the implementation of effective evidence-based standards, policies, and protocols. Measures, analyzes, and continuously improves the safety and quality of patient care delivered in the FirstChoice hub as demonstrated through empiric outcomes.
Communicates and collaborates on a regular basis with nursing leaders, ancillary department leaders, associates, and other identified stakeholders’ achievements and concerns related to patient safety, quality, patient loyalty, associate engagement, and satisfaction throughout the assigned region. Develops and implements action plans to address concerns utilizing a shared decision-making model.
Participates in FirstChoice program decision-making workgroups to implement improvement changes within the organization/region.
Other duties as needed and assigned.
Ensures compliance with all healthcare standards and requirements established by various licensing, regulatory, and accreditation bodies. Maintains a working knowledge of Organizational Integrity Programs, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current Iowa Registered Nursing license.
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing required.
Master's degree in Nursing, Business or Health Administration, preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years clinical nursing manager or leadership experience at the unit level in an acute care facility.
Knowledge of professional nursing practice in a clinical specialty evidenced through professional practice/administrative certification.
Member of a professional nursing organization required.
