Hours: This position is 7 on 7 off evening shift with varying hours. Weekends and Holidays as they fall. There is potential to cover overnight shifts.

About The Job:

Provides services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory service areas. Performs Moderately complex and Waived laboratory tests in any assigned department of the clinical laboratory to provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results. The laboratory assistant aids the Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist in their daily work with specimen processing of samples, loading the automated line, performing moderately complex or waived testing, and resulting as assigned. The laboratory assistant will need to rotate between general laboratory duties, phlebotomy, and the reference lab send out department with processing specimens. This will include making sure specimen requirements are met per reference laboratory standards and proper storage of specimens between transit are maintained, answering calls for the department, and troubleshooting any specimen or order issues that may arise.

What we are looking for:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or Health Related Science field required.

Enrollment in a Medical Laboratory Science program preferred.

Experience:

None.

Special Skills and Competencies:

Membership and active participation in professional organization are desirable.

Must have the ability to work flexible hours.

Must have the ability to communicate effectively with other hospital personnel, patients, vendors and service personnel.

Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status. **Microbiology staff, PRN and contract employees who are not performing phlebotomy are not required to have BLS.
