Description:

A physician in the Emergency Department provides quality patient care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The duties of the physician cannot be rigidly defined, but the following description characterizes common expectations of the position. The primary responsibilities may not be interpreted to prohibit functions not specifically identified.

MercyOne North Iowa- Emergency Medicine

  • Level III Trauma Center

  • 30,000 visits/year

  • Full-service hospital with a 24/7 Hospitalist program, air medical and ambulance services, CT/MRI in the department, bed-side ultrasound, and point-of-use supplies in every room

  • 42 hours of physician coverage/day

  • Tertiary center with 300+ physicians & specialist support to keep patients in house- Trauma surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, GI, ENT, Pediatric Hospitalists, OBGYN, Pulmonary/Critical Care, Neurology, Infectious Disease, Ortho Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Anesthesia, Radiology, etc.

  • Only transfers out < 1% of patients

  • Practice at one site!

  • 24/7 scribe coverage and experienced, seasoned nursing staff

  • Flexible scheduling- rotating day/evening/night shift or nocturnist position available

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of a medical/osteopathic medical school is required. Demonstrated competency as a physician by completion of an appropriate residency program; board certified or board eligible. Must be able to obtain Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa medical staff privileges. Above average communication skills. Ability to work with a team. Licensed or eligible for State of Iowa physician license; Iowa Controlled Substance Certificate and Federal DEA Certificate.
