Mt. Ascutney Hospital Medical Lab Assistant in Manchester, Iowa
Schedule: Approximately 24 hours per week
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy program
Valid Iowa Driver’s License required, reliable vehicle, liability insurance
CPR Certification
Child and Dependent Adult Mandatory Reporter Training required
Confidentiality of medical, personal and financial information gained in position must be maintained according to hospital and departmental policy
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reports to the Laboratory Manager
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Skillfully performs phlebotomy on patients in-house and other locations
Accurately performs breath alcohol tests and appropriately completes paperwork
Accurately collects drug screening samples and completes chain of custody forms
Accurately orders sent-out labs
Performs clerical duties and files accurately
Takes accurate and complete orders following RMC policy as well as CLIA, LMRP, NRP guidelines
Assists with stocking the department with supplies
Participates in hospital and departmental inservices, meetings, continuing education activities
Provides for patient safety, physical and mental comfort during procedures
Accurately processes reports from sent out labs
Accurate ordering in computer
Schedules drug testing
Perform EKGs and associated paperwork accurately
Explains diagnostic lab tests to patients
Instructs patients regarding proper preparation and collection of specimen needed for tests.
Performs the collection, labeling, and some preparation of specimen for testing
May perform lab tests with the ability to process and release results that are timely and accurate
Communicates and documents critical values to appropriate personnel
Facilitate department scheduling in call back and emergent situations
Performs daily functions directly related to the laboratory department
Performs troubleshooting and preventative maintenance as needed
Performs therapeutic phlebotomies
