ManpowerGroup Laboratory Technician in Johnston, Iowa

Our client, an agriculture company is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join their team. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of aseptic techniques which will align successfully with the organization.

Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Location: Johnston, IA

Pay range: $19-$20/hr

W2 contract for around a year with benefits included.

Under supervision, will be responsible for conducting plant cell/tissue culture laboratory activities, greenhouse and field-based activities in support of research.

They will be responsible for routine laboratory, greenhouse, and field research and housekeeping activities, data entry and handling tasks, and to follow all safety guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine tissue culture procedures in the double haploid process including embryo manipulation using aseptic technique, plantlet transfer, and plant care.

  • May perform greenhouse procedures including plant crossing and seed handling.

  • May work in field settings during the summer crossing, sampling, and plant handling.

  • Enter and maintain accurate records in Excel and databases.

  • Follow all safety guidelines and maintain operational excellence through quality management and good housekeeping.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Plant Physiology, or related field of study

  • Experience with soybean, corn, wheat, sorghum, or other row crops is beneficial

  • Experience with greenhouse and field work is beneficial

  • Well organized, strong time management and communication skills, and able to work independently

  • Strong competencies in MS Office

  • General laboratory experience and/or knowledge in tissue culture handling and aseptic technique

  • Ability to adapt to changing goals/priorities as directed by the team lead, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions

  • General understanding and application of scientific principles, theories, and concepts
