Job Description

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Physician to join the team at the Glenwood Resource Center which offers a continuum of care to Iowans experiencing intellectual disabilities. This is a full-time position with a Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. schedule and on call duties as scheduled.

The Glenwood Resource Center (GRC) will be closing as a state operated specialty care facility on June 30, 2024. This position will end at that time. Applicants are encouraged to apply to gain experience in the areas of working for state operated specialty care.

The Physician is a key member of the interdisciplinary team with many roles and responsibilities, some of which are outlined here. This position performs medical assessments including but not limited to annual physicals, quarterly follow-ups, routine/acute care, pre-procedure assessments, and admission history, to diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medications, monitor ongoing treatment, and make referrals to clinics/hospitals according to professional standards of care. Post-assessment, the Physician develops medical treatment plans and shares responsibility for plan implementation with other care providers while empowering the client by relating in a manner conducive to promoting improved physical and mental health. This position also completes medical records and reports, actively participates in setting and meeting the mission and goals of the organization, and adheres to all policies, procedures, laws, and regulations as set forth by ICF/MR regulations, Code of Iowa, and the Department of Health and Human Services to assure quality medical and treatment services.

In addition to providing life-changing direct care, this position serves as a valuable resource for the facility. The Physician educates and provides medical instruction to various professionals and staff on a variety of medical issues and concerns, and communicates with other physicians, professionals, family members, and community personnel to meet client needs and provide quality service. This position also has opportunities to attend professional meetings and conferences and are urged to keep abreast of current trends and new developments in the field.

Physicians must be registered with the Drug Enforcement Administration and CMS for National Provider Identifier.

GRC provides residential services for individuals who have struggled to be successful in the community, gives in-home support for those who transition to the community, and assists community-based providers by providing assessments, training, and other technical support. The goal of all GRC services is to help individuals be successful in their communities.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of medicine, completion of an internship program and licensure as a physician by the State of Iowa.
