Description:

POSITION PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, coordinates the delivery of nursing care and activities of all departments within the hospital between 1800 and 0630, Monday through Friday, and twenty-four-hour coverage on weekends and holidays. Serves as the administrative representative of the hospital President and has administrative authority during these hours. Assists in the implementation of the mission, philosophy, objectives, standards, policies and procedures of Mercy Medical Center and the Patient Care Services Department.

Customers include: Patients and families, health care providers (i.e., physicians, Amicare, Hospice), third party payers, clinical directors, clinical supervisors, patient care coordinators, staff, co-workers, volunteers and community agencies/services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information (i.e. HIPAA, Stark, etc.)

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

In a working day the employee must be able to sit 3 hours, stand 1 hour, and walk 4 hours.

The job requires occasional bending/stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching above shoulder level, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and pushing/pulling.

The job also requires the ability to occasionally (6-10% of work time) carry up to 10 lbs. and to occasionally (6-10% of work time) lift up to 35 lbs.

The job requires the use of hands for simple grasping.

The employee is exposed to marked changes in temperature and humidity, infectious and radiation exposure.

Must be able to see at a near visual acuity level.

Must be able to speak.

Must be able to hear speech.

Must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) is required. Current RN license to practice nursing in the state where patient care is administered. Minimum two (2) years' experience as a staff nurse, charge nurse, patient care coordinator, or clinical supervisor. ACLS certification required for full and part-time positions. ACLS certification preferred for PRN positions. Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) will be required within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter.
