UnityPoint Health Supervisor Nursing Services-Younker 8 in Des Moines, Iowa

Assists in managing the day to day operations of the unit utilizing quality, cost effective patient care principles. Supervises, supports and develops unit staff. Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area). Unit consists of 23 beds with a patient population consisting of pulmonary and gastrointestinal disorders; ventilator transition, general medical and remote telemetry.

  • Manages daily operations of patient care. Contributes to the maintenance of high quality, cost effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospital’s budgetary guidelines.

  • Provides clinical leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility.

  • Implements evidence based practice strategies to meet the patient care needs. Assists in the achievement of quality improvement objectives and takes necessary modifications for attainment of goals.

  • Interviews, orients, trains, schedules, evaluate, disciplines, and terminate staff with appropriate input. Demonstrates the ability to fairly and consistently interpret, apply and follow personnel policies/procedures.

  • Represents UPHDM in a professional manner. Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model within the department and with hospital personnel.

  • Creates an environment that promotes staff empowerment.

  • Displays creativity and innovation when making recommendations for improvement in the delivery of services to the hospital.

  • Is able to instruct and lead the staff so that a high level of productivity is maintained, intervening when necessary to problem solve.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree. BSN preferred.

  • Experience: Two years experience as registered nurse. Experience in specialty area preferred.

  • License(s)/Certification(s): Current Iowa license as a registered nurse. Current BCLS (CPR). Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional educational and lifestyle backgrounds. Knowledge of basic computer skills.
