Primary Health Care (PHC) was founded in 1981 by Dr. Bery Engebretsen in Des Moines, IA. Our mission has remained unchanged since that time, to provide healthcare and supportive services to all, regardless of insurance, immigration status, or ability to pay.

Based on the needs of the communities we serve, PHC offers a spectrum of medical and dental services including family practice, behavioral health, HIV care and services, and pharmacy. PHC’s Homeless Support Services is the entry point for serving people experiencing homelessness in Polk County. Enabling services are available to help patients with benefits enrollment, case management, transportation, translation, and patient education. We currently have locations in Ames, Des Moines, & Marshalltown.

As the RN Clinical Practice Manager you will be responsible for clinical leadership of assigned unit(s), and for building a culture that supports a collaborative work environment while establishing efficiency to optimize results. This position supervises the licensed nursing staff and unlicensed clinical and care coordination staff: ensures relevant workflows are performed by assigned staff. Manages the clinic finances related to assigned personnel and clinical expenses. Partners with the Clinic Administrator to ensure efficient front and back end collaboration. Implements assigned strategic initiatives for short and long-term clinic goal achievement. Complies with accreditation, regulatory, federal and state rules and regulations as well as organizational policies and procedures. Demonstrates iCare values in daily work.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Develops and maintains a culture within assigned department consistent with the organizational culture. Builds relationships within clinic to build trust and enhance patient, provider, and employee satisfaction and engagement.

  • Collaborates with Clinic Administrator to proactively manage and optimize provider scheduling, ensuring patient access. Acts as back up to the Clinic Administrator as needed.

  • Manages clinic finances including purchasing, expenses, and revenue generation (visits) for assigned area.

  • Facilitates daily huddles and team communications.

  • Implements strategic initiatives and leads change management efforts. Responsible for ensuring that workflows are followed by assigned staff.

  • Ensures clinical quality measures are met. Supports the development and implementation of clinical best practices. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements related to infection control and safety management, as required by local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting organizations.

  • Manages assigned team including staffing, orientation and training, performance management, and completing competency assessments. Provides ongoing coaching, feedback and guidance to employees to aid in job and goal achievement.

  • Complies with accreditation, regulatory, federal and state rules and regulations as well as organizational policies and procedures. Maintains the clinical environment for assigned facilities, ensures completion of safety check lists.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications You Will Bring

  • College level nursing program completion (Minimum of Associates Degree)

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience with 1 year ambulatory care experience.

  • Supervisory/leadership experience.

  • Working knowledge of standard regulations for medical assistants, nursing policies, procedures, methods & techniques in accordance with nurse practice guidelines and scope of practice per state law and Iowa Board of Nursing, to provide patient care and treatment.

  • Knowledge of nursing care in accordance with IA Board of Nursing regulations & practices.

  • Strong nursing skills including but not limited to examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures; common ambulatory medications & side effects; common safety hazards and precautionary measures for safe work environment; and perform phlebotomy and administer injections.

  • Professional skills with ability to remain composed in all situations.

  • Basic computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, Electronic Medical records and internet-based platforms/applications.

  • Supervisory skills with ability to effectively provide direction, feedback and coaching.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with high customer service orientation demonstrating respect, caring & tolerance for others.

  • Organization, prioritization, and time management skills with ability to work under minimal supervision.

  • Licenses & Certifications: Current RN license recognized by the State of Iowa Board of Nursing; *Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers Certification recognized by the American Heart Association; *Current Mandatory Reporter Training: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse recognized by the State of Iowa.

    • Must be obtained with Introductory Period if not current.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree

  • Two years of supervisory/management experience

  • Experience in a community health center or rural health center.

  • Two years of experience in an ambulatory care setting.

  • Experience in an acute care setting

    Your experience and skills determine your base pay. The hiring range for this position is typically $27.50 - $34.38, though highly experienced candidates may earn up to $41.25 per hour. PHC also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
