Who are we, and what do we do?

Corteva Agriscience has exciting opportunities for Post-Doctoral Visiting Scientists - Renewable Fuel, based in Johnston, Iowa.

The Post-Doctoral Visiting Scientists will serve as integral members of a research group focused on discovering new traits for improving seed composition. The primary project will involve enhancing oil content and fatty acid profile for renewable fuel production. These are hands-on roles and will require management of research projects, as well as coordination with other scientists to deliver technical milestones. We are looking for self-motivated scientists with strong technical backgrounds, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and excellent problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities - How will you help us grow?

  • Discover new gene targets for increasing oil content and modifying oil composition.

  • Design transgenic and CRISPR-editing constructs.

  • Explore diverse approaches to understanding the mechanisms of seed composition.

  • Provide leadership to the project to achieve technical goals.

  • Communicate with relevant parties on project progress and recommendations. Summarize plans and progress in written reports and oral presentations.

  • Provide scientific expertise and remain well-versed on new technologies and relevant literature.

  • Publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals.


Requirements - What have you grown?

  • Ph.D. degree in plant biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, or related field completed by the start date.

  • Research experience in mutant isolation, QTL mapping and cloning, and plant molecular genetics is preferred.

  • Knowledge of lipid biochemistry is highly preferred.

  • Demonstration of being an innovative scientist for understanding mechanisms in plant molecular biology.

  • Must be self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as a team member.

  • Must be results driven, with ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and problem solving. Detail-oriented, strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communications.
