Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Laboratory Supervisor for the Core Lab.

As a Laboratory Supervisor at MercyOne, you will plan, organize and supervise the daily operations of MercyOne Des Moines Laboratory technical sections.

  • Participates in the interview and hiring process for staff vacancies in the areas of responsibility.

  • Schedules staff to ensure appropriate coverage. Monitors and adjusts staffing appropriate to the workflow

  • Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings to disseminate information and receive feedback.

  • Develops and maintains orientation materials and coordinates completion of staff orientation.

  • Completes annual performance evaluations and annual competencies.

  • Performs disciplinary action when indicated.

  • Ensures standard operating policies and procedures are current and adhere to the Laboratory’s document control system

  • Ensures compliance with the requirements of laboratory regulatory and accrediting agencies.

  • Evaluates, recommends and coordinates new instrumentation purchases, staff training, instrument set-up and advanced troubleshooting.

  • Identifies and implements process changes to optimize operational workflows to achieve departmental and organizational goals

  • Contributes to the formation of the vision, policies, standards and culture.

  • Develops and maintains quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives appropriate to the areas of responsibility.

  • Maintains an inventory system that ensures appropriate supply levels.

  • Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Manager, Clinical Laboratory Director or Medical Laboratory Director

Schedule: Monday - Friday 2pm - 10:30pm or 2:30pm-11pm

General Requirements:

  • Registration by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a medical technologist (MT) or medical laboratory scientist (MLS) or by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) as a medical technologist, required.

  • Four years of clinical laboratory experience required,

  • For Histocompatability – three of the four year’s experience must be related to histocompatibility/transplant testing.

  • For all other sections – One of the four year’s experience must be related to the testing in specified laboratory section. (i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, Microbiology, etc. )

  • One (1) year supervisory experience preferred.

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or in Chemistry, Biology or related field with one-year clinical internship in a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Clinical Laboratory Science program or approved alternate career path as designated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA), required.
