Head Start Nutrition Assistant, Data Entry - 999974


Drake University Head Start is seeking a qualified, detail-oriented candidate to serve as the Nutrition Assistant for the program. This position, under the supervision of the Health and Nutrition Manager, will provide support for the nutrition services offered to the staff, children, and families of the Head Start, Early Head Start, and Early Head Start Child Care Partnership programs.


Function Percent Description

01 40% Under the direction of Health and Nutrition Manager, conduct monitoring activities including, but not limited to, accurate completion and documentation of daily meal service by classroom staff. Ensure complete and accurate documentation is submitted in a timely manner for the monthly Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) claim. Reconcile documentation submitted by staff with the program’s database system and communicate when discrepancies or errors are found, and ensure all errors are addressed and remedied.

02 25% Ensure compliance with the CACFP program as required by Head Start Program Performance Standards, including the submission of CACFP enrollment forms for every enrolled child. Obtaining, reviewing and reconciling monthly CACFP paperwork from program staff and submitting an accurate monthly CACFP claim to the State of Iowa. Participate in CACFP program audits, and complete the annual CACFP application.

03 20% Partner with and complete the annual CACFP meal contracts with community programs and school districts for the delivery of Head Start’s lunch services. Communicate with meal service providers regarding necessary food substitutions, service dates, monitoring the submission of incoming meal counts and bills, and ensuring bills are paid to meal service providers.

04 5% Assist in providing professional development and education for all staff, nurses, and parents on nutrition issues at time of hire and ongoing. Follow-up with appropriate training as determined by findings and CACFP program updates and changes.

05 5% Maintain ongoing inventory of nutrition supplies and complete purchasing of replacement supplies as needed.

06 5% Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, rules and requirements. Maintain strict confidentiality of all records and documents. Maintain department records and reports in a secure manner. Represent Drake University and the Drake University Head Start program in a professional manner. Treat clients, co-workers, staff, partners and community members with respect and civility, and ensure a safe and inclusive environment for everyone at all times. React to change productively, maintain prompt and regular attendance, and perform all other duties as assigned.


Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. One to three years of experience in Head Start, child care, or early childhood preferred. Experience with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) preferred.Current Driver’s License and ability to be insured by University’s insurance carrier required.
