Course: LEAD 1- Leadership and Lasso (1 credit course –evening course)

The Drake University School of Education – Department of Leadership and Counseling invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor. This position will be responsible for teaching LEAD 199 – Leadership and Lasso (taught Spring 2023). The successful candidate will teach one section in the Spring of 2023 to undergraduate students as an evening class. The instructor is responsible for facilitating course activities and projects designed to meet the course objectives as well as grading all related coursework.

This macro-level leadership course focuses on the leadership of teams, organizations, and community. The first part of the course examines issues related to the leadership of teams - building effective teams, conflict management, team role structures, and creating team viability. The second part of the course examines issues related to the leadership of organizations and community - building a shared vision, building a leadership culture, championing organizational change, and the political realities of leading. The major objective of the course is to aid students with (a) becoming effective and ethical leaders, and (b) integrating and applying knowledge and experiences from the prior coursework on their path to leadership development. All course experiences will culminate in a class project - a realistic organizational simulation where students will create a new team-based organization.

Duties:

Essential duties include:

· Develop a syllabus and readings with guidance of LEAD Director.

· Establish a consistent method of assessing students around the course objectives.

· Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the course, online and independent student activities.

· Maintain timely communication with students to assist them in achieving course objectives.

· Monitor and document individual student progress.

· Communicate questions and concerns with collaborating faculty.

Qualifications:

Required: master’s degree and experience in developing and teaching coursework like this one. Preferred: Leadership experience or degree or university teaching experience.
