Purpose of Job
Responsible for performing physical therapy treatments as delegated by the supervising physical therapist.
Associate's Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant Program required.
Current Iowa physical therapist assistant license required.
Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
Requires knowledge of physical therapy as demonstrated by successful completion of accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program.
Requires skills in communication, both oral and written, time management and organization, personnel management.
Requires the ability to work independently, adapt to a changing environment, organize and work with a variable patient load.
Requires the ability to conduct patient teaching and in-service presentations.
Practices within standards of practice as outlined by professional organization and licensing body.

Performs physical therapy treatments as delegated by the supervising physical therapist to ensure accurate and consistent replication of the therapist program.
Carries out treatments according to supervising therapist's plan.
Demonstrates critical thinking skills, by recognizing treatment program needs and/or contraindications and communicates these with supervising Physical Therapist.
Obtains approval from the supervisory Physical Therapist to change treatment and progress patients to ensure proper progression of treatment and facilitate appropriate level of care.
Follows state guidelines regarding frequency of visits and reporting to the supervising Physical Therapist of the patient's condition, responses and reactions to prescribed treatment.
Provides patient and family education to facilitate patient rehabilitation.
Utilizes the services of interpreters, child-life specialists, etc to assist with instruction as needed or requested.
Coordinates treatments with interdisciplinary services as needed.
Patient documentation is thorough and timely, enhancing communication and ensuring completion of Medical Record.
All documentation is completed within time frame according to policy.
Documentation includes al JC requirements. (Surgeries, Signatures, Allergies, etc.)
Documentation accurately reflects services provided, patient response and progress.
Documentation format and content are consistent with departmental dictation guides.
Patient billing is appropriate and accurately reflects the services provided for each therapy session.
Indicates start/stop time of treatment, the number of minutes provided for each service rendered, and appropriately bills patient from this documentation.
Demonstrates commitment to personal growth and clinical excellence.
Attends all departmental meetings whenever possible.
Attends all mandatory in-services.
Attends a minimum of 1 continuing education course per year.
Presents a staff in-service within 1 month of attendance of continuing education course.
Assists with program development, including general department programs, assists with marketing strategies and provide input to the Coordinators of these programs.
Participates in program development and work teams as needed.
Participates in community education through speaking engagements, covering health fairs or other events as needed.
Participates and assists with marketing strategies as needed.
Develops physician relationships.
Demonstrates responsibility with all job related duties.
Takes accountability to cover all assigned shifts.
