The Division Director of Digital and Virtual Care Strategy is critical to MercyOne’s strategy. This role will leverage the tools and capabilities of Trinity Health and CommonSpirit Health in development and implementation of MercyOne’s short term and long-term digital strategies to connect directly with consumers, expand access to care, support continuity of care and improve provider efficiency.

Solutions could include any virtual or digital method to improve throughput of clinical care, access to health care, reduce travel time for visiting specialists or create educational value. As the organization plans to implement Epic in the future recommendations should align with that vision.

Successful candidates will be smart, strong leaders with healthcare experience in the virtual arena. They will be collaborative, proactive, forward thinkers, consumer-focused, responsive to stakeholders, hardworking, able to manage complex details and have excellent project management skills. Experience leveraging digital health/virtual care to increase revenue, increase access, reduce costs and deliver outstanding service quality is required.

For purposes of this job description, the term Virtual Care includes “clinician-to-clinician, provider-to-patient, and consumer-driven interactions across a spectrum of mobile or electronically-enabled devices, direct patient care, educational and self-management services” inclusive of the terms eHealth, telemedicine, telehealth, mobile health and virtual health.


  • Partners with the Medical Group Leadership Team and stakeholders (including clinicians, operations, IT, clinical informatics, payer strategy, quality, compliance, legal, marketing, market presidents, etc.) to identify the highest impact digital priorities including new care models, create roadmaps, evaluate vendors and manage implementation.

  • Defines project requirements, scopes and plans projects, identifies and manages risk, measures project progress and determines corrective actions to ensure successful project implementation. Identifies resource needs for startup and maintenance including competencies, sets and communicates team/individual responsibilities via matrixed relationships, raises concerns in a timely way to leadership.

  • Understands the needs of both clinicians and patients and translates that understanding into financially responsible digital solutions which improve clinical outcomes and consumer experience.

  • Partners with finance to develop realistic budgets and financial forecasts.

  • Coordinates or oversees contracting functions as necessary.

  • Responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the performance of virtual care services and technology including quality, service, success, and customer satisfaction. This includes assisting in the development of success metrics and dashboards.

  • Leads the work of the Digital Health Manager, Digital and Virtual Health Technology Manager and Digital Health Specialist.

  • Proactively applies research-based digital strategies to improve access and quality outcomes.

  • Collaborates with Medical Group Leadership to align provider compensation plans to drive virtual care adoption.

  • Develops all communication, training, and policies and procedures for all telehealth activities.

  • Supports the business owners of telehealth programs within MercyOne and identifies opportunities to generate efficiencies across existing virtual care services.

  • Develops intake and prioritization process for requests.

  • Supports multiple initiatives simultaneously including managing the dependencies, issues and risks.

  • Monitors national healthcare virtual care providers, new care models and local competitor's services, strategies, and industry trends. Educates leadership on the evolving strategic landscape.

  • Delivers presentations on telehealth to internal and external audiences as needed.

  • Partners with the advocacy team to promote the funding and recognition of telehealth services as tools to increase access. Researches grant offerings to fund MercyOne programs.

  • Promotes the mission, vision and values of MercyOne.





  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Clinical Informatics, Public Health, a related field or equivalent experience. A Master’s Degree is preferred.

  • 7+ years of combined experience in clinical informatics, clinical practice or virtual care/telehealth experience required. At least 3 years of direct experience with implementing virtual care solutions is required.

  • PMP certification and experience with Agile a plus.

  • Six Sigma trained a plus.

  • Knowledge of Epic or Cerner telehealth features and workflows is required.

  • An understanding of the many factors contributing to the success of a digital health program; including legal, compliance, physician credentialing, licensing, state and federal policy, administrative, technical and financial/reimbursements.

  • Strong industry expertise, networking and awareness of trends across Data/Analytics domains required.
