Overview:Position will be to provide special health services to an individual student or students in a school.The registered nurse will implement the individual health plan written by the school nurse and will provide specialized nursing interventions to an individual student or students including, but not limited to, tracheostomy care, oxygen administration, gastrostomy care, moving and positioning, toileting, feeding, and medication administration. This nurse will perform health office tasks as directed by the school nurse.ENDORSEMENTS:Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Iowa Board of NursingQualification:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Essential Duties must be performed on site. Other duties or tasks may be assigned.Implements the individualized health plan (plan of care) as written by the school nurse.Provides health care services under the supervision of the school nurse.Provides nursing services in accordance with all applicable State of Iowa registered nurse laws, rules and regulations.Expertise and knowledge of specialized cares related to tracheostomies, gastrostomies, oxygen etcFunctions as a member of a multidisciplinary team to deliver health care to the student.Attends IEP meetings and other health and/or educational meetings related to the student as requested.Collaborates with the school nurse, teacher and others in the school to maintain/improve the student's health.Active communication with the school nurse and school staff and maintains positive relationships with the student’s parents/guardians.Maintains appropriate records including medical billing logs and protects the confidentiality of data.Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.Other duties as assigned.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to effectively write reports and communications to students, colleagues, parents and staff. Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals and fractions.REASONING ABILITY:Ability to solve problems effectively using sound nursing judgment. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts. The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. The employee will frequently work in different areas of the classroom including in/at desks, on or near the floor, standing, in movement while supervising indoor and outdoor activities, etc. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors when supervising students outside of the classroom.
