Systems Safety is looking for a talented Engineering Co-op for the Spring/Summer 2024 Session to join our Avionics Safety Engineering team for Business and Regional Systems and Air Transport programs. This exciting opportunity requires an individual who has skills and interests in aerospace, systems, hardware & software development, as the student will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge of aerospace, software, electrical, or systems engineering processes and methodologies. A large portion of this co-op will work in the Safety department helping to write requirements, analyze failure conditions, and create fault trees. The successful candidate will thrive at the opportunity to collaborate with engineers and generate a positive team working environment, as well as demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills for purposes of developing requirements and design documentation and proposing well thought out solutions to technical problems

This position is based out of Cedar Rapids, IA; may be eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Follow the project's defined systems and software process for design, development, verification and configuration management

• Quickly acquire technical domain knowledge and contribute to the design of sophisticated architectural systems

• Perform civil safety assessment process in accordance with ARP4761 or military assessments in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, including but not limited to, System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSAs), System Safety Assessments (SSAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs), Common Mode Analyses (CMAs), Hazard Tracking System (HTS)

• Support systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity

• Review of design and development documentation for safety critical equipment

  Basic Qualifications:

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable engineering discipline.

• Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.
