Actalent Microbiology Technician in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

MICROBIOLOGY LAB TECHNICIAN

Job Description

  • Preparing and making media and plating sample

  • Microbiological analysis of samples and food Pathogen testing such as Salmonella and Listeria.

  • Conducts chemical, physical, and microbiological analysis of raw materials and yeast, both in-process and finished product.

  • Use a Risograph to conduct activity tests on various types of dough using different types of yeast.

  • Maintains equipment and general work area including the following: cleaning and calibration of equipment, keeping records of maintenance performed, ensuring equipment is working properly, keeping work area clean and orderly.

  • Calculate and record results in the appropriate locations in a timely manner.

  • Ensure the processing area is stocked with needed solutions prepared by the lab.

  • Performs tests accurately and consistently, following procedures.

  • Prepares media needed to perform microbiological testing.

  • Completes monthly food contact swabs in the plant.

  • Cross check of production department’s CIP solutions.

  • Completion of bi-annual proficiency tests.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelors degree required in Life Science - Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, Biochemistry,

2 years of lab experience would be a plus

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
