The Cedar Falls Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CF CAPS) is an innovative, unique program that is designed to provide junior and senior students hands-on, real world experience. Students are able to explore their interests in a profession-based learning approach. At CF CAPS, students fast forward into their future and are fully immersed in a professional culture, solving real world problems, using industry standard tools and are mentored by real employers, which leads to substantial advanced contribution during the formative high school years. Medical and Health Services careers range from technicians in respiratory therapy to physicians in private practice and from biomedical engineers to admitting personnel. Understanding the breadth of available career options is crucial to making the right education decisions.
Students who choose the Medical and Health Services Strand of the CF CAPS program will be able to see and experience many areas of healthcare service. Career Interviews(Job shadows) and hands-on experience will follow classroom instruction.
The following is a structural outline for the Medicine and Healthcare Experience:
The Medical and Health Services experience will accommodate approximately 15 students in the a.m. session and approximately 15 in the p.m. session. These students will be from any participating school district.
CF CAPS instructors oversee the program. Business partner projects, job shadowing, and hands-on experience will be initially completed at Allen College and
other healthcare business partners.
CF CAPS courses offer high school and college credit. Hawkeye Community College is the
college credit partner.
Medical and Health Services instructor partners with business partners to coordinate access to
specific departments for Medical and Health Service experience internships, independent study and/or other study options for each semester of the school year.
Life Science Degree or other Health related certificate or field experience
Career Technical Education (CTE) Certification preferred
Certified Health Professional preferred
Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
Effective classroom management strategies.
Superior project management skills.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.
UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Willing to design, develop and maintain a state-of-art curriculum using the direct input and
guidance from business partners and mentors.
Willing to facilitate the delivery of the course, while being co-located within a business partner
Willing to develop and maintain multiple business partners, mentors, guest speakers, site visits, resulting in the acquisition of real world projects for students to work on.
Medical and health service experience is desirable for this position.
Willing to supervise student interns and collaborate with associated internship supervisors.
Willing to support and supervise CNA students in collaboration with healthcare professionals

The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.
