Job Summary
Diagnoses and treats patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Gathers, organizes, integrates, and disseminates data concerning patient’s family, medical history, and onset of symptoms obtained from patient, relatives, and other sources.
• Assesses patient to determine general physical condition.
• Orders laboratory and other diagnostic tests and evaluates data obtained.
• Administers or prescribes treatment and medications as required.
• Provides consultation to patients as requested by professional colleagues.
• Reports performance issues regarding staff to appropriate department supervisor.
• Determines nature and extent of mental disorder, and formulates treatment plan.
• Treats or directs treatment of patient, utilizing a variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications.
• Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.
• Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
• Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.
• Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations and JCAHO standards.
• Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.
• Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.
• Provides compassionate, respectful care at all times.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited medical school. Completed an approved residency in psychiatry.
Position Requirements, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
License to practice medicine in the State of Iowa.
Board eligibility or board certification in General Psychiatry recognized by ABMS.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret clinical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, patients, families, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to patients, families, management, the public, and/or board of directors.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; talk and hear; use hands for repetitive actions such as simple grasping, pushing & pulling and fine manipulation. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 21 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
