Genesis Health System Specialist, Patient Account in Bettendorf, Iowa
Position Title: Specialist, Patient Account Department: SS-GHG Woodlands-GI
Purpose: With a high degree of accuracy and patient satisfaction, aids patient's/guardians/guarantors in resolving balances that have been deemed to be past due according to the collection policy. Reviews accounts for billing and payment accuracy as well as notes of patient contacts prior to the account entering the "collection" tab in the practice software. Responsible for making contacts with patients/guardians/guarantors in a timely manner, documenting all contacts. Counsels patients/guardians/guarantors in setting up payment plans and applying for financial assistance. Reviews account for submission to the collection agency and prepares collection action requests to be sent to practitioners for review. Follows up with claims specialists/physicians offices to resolve any barriers that may be hindering account resolution. All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility: No Supervision: The job does not require the provision of guidance or supervision to others. There is no formal responsibility for directing others.
Materials Responsibility: Very Limited. Work requires very limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include personal work materials, supplies or equipment, or very small amounts of cash. The employee has a very limited or indirect amount of control over these resources. Although human error might require the repair or replacement of materials, usually the cost of correcting these errors is minor. The variety and volume of resources is also very limited. Problems associated with material resources are very uncomplicated.

Education: High school graduation or equivalent
Special Training: Customer Service Experience; Word processing at 40 WPM.
Training Preferred: ICD and CPT code knowledge. Medical front office, insurance/patient account payment posting. Customer service and friendly, outgoing personality along with the ability to handle stressful situations.
Experience: No experience required.
Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are often difficult or stressful in nature. Contact with others involves complex, detailed and often sensitive topics. The job requires a high degree of interpersonal skills to deal with a range of complicated problem situations. Interactions involve gaining the agreement of others.
Working Conditions: There are little or no adverse environmental conditions to consider.
