ISU Dining is a self-operated, fully self-funded department at Iowa State University providing high-quality food and services to the university community. Reporting through the Division of Student Affairs, ISU Dining is committed to understanding student expectations and our impact on the student experience. ISU Dining operates 4 residential dining facilities, 18 retail venues, catering services, a bakery, and a food stores warehouse and distribution center. In addition, to support these operations we maintain several administrative units including support services, engagement, business services and financial operations, dining information systems, and a culinary team.

ISU Dining Team

ISU Dining employs 210 full-time P&S and merit employees including chefs, cooks, cashiers, storekeepers, kitchen helpers, dieticians, management, marketing, and administrative staff. In addition, ISU Dining typically employs between 1,100-1,400 student employees each semester, making it Iowa State University’s largest student employer.

SummaryResponsible for working with university students, groups, programs or departments to increase awareness and improve behaviors relevant to diet and nutrition including counseling, assessment, and support.Example of Duties

• Provides dietetic and nutrition services and expertise.

• Provides dietetic assessment, counseling, and support to students.

• Refers clients to appropriate health authority as needed.

• Assists with menu planning and management of the Special Diet Kitchen.

• Maintains contact with Dean of Students, Department of Residence, Health and Wellness Division, other university partners along with external vendors regarding available nutrition options.

• Provides education and outreach to clients, staff, academic classes, potential students and families, and others through creation of training materials, direct communication, and presentations.

Level Guidelines• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity• Provides guidance to students

*This position is a 12 month position. Working hours are Monday - Friday regular business hours with the possibility of working later or on weekends due to special events.
